Last night we had the pleasure of hearing Covie Edwards-Pitt, a Waban resident like many of us talk and field questions about her excellent new book, “Raised Healthy, Wealthy and Wise: Lessons from successful and grounded inheritors on how they got that way.”
Thirty three attendees, and many volunteers were in the audience that stayed for a lovely reception and book signing by the author.
In her professional life Covie is the Chief Wealth Advisory Officer at Ballentine Partners, and helps families negotiate the pleasures and pitfalls of intergenerational wealth.
While not giving us a list of “how tos” she was clear in describing the behaviors that parents can use in helping children learn how to have money without becoming dependent on their parents.
Her message is for all families – to raise children who are able to take care of themselves without leaning on family assets.
Not an easy task, and she doesn’t try to dismiss the challenges; but, rather, employs a variety of case studies to show what works and what doesn’t.
Eighteen books were sold, with the author generously donating 25% of sales to the library, which combined with donations from attendees added up to approximately $300.00.
It was great to see many new faces, and hear the frequent comments that the library is beautiful, and has the books people want to read.
Many thanks to all the volunteers who helped put the evening together, we can’t do anything without them/us!
Stay tuned for our next author talk – coming on December 17th, Hank Phillipi Ryan.
